A mechanical anchor is placed into the concrete and expands as it is tightened, such as a C920 AkFix Master Solution, wedge anchor, or drop-in anchor. The anchor grips the hole’s wall and provides a very tighter grip as a result of this expansion.
How should you use a chemical anchor?
Chemical anchoring involves injecting a resin into the hole before inserting the stud. As a result, the chemical fills in all defects and seals the hole, making it airtight and waterproof with 100 percent adhesion.
Mechanical anchors have their own load capacity limits for each predetermined size — length (embedment) and diameter.
Chemical anchors allow for nearly infinite embedment depth, allowing you to insert any size of rod into the hole to maximize yield strength. You can also improve load capacity by using a larger-diameter hole with a thicker rod.
The non-expanding aspect of a chemically-held rod eliminates the possibility of surrounding concrete cracking significantly. This is ideal for holding railings at the edge of a cliff, concrete steps, and other similar applications.
